Welcome to APCH 2017 in Singapore
The 13th Asia-Pacific Congress of Hypertension
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
On behalf of the Asian-Pacific Society of Hypertension (APSH) and the Singapore Hypertension Society (SHS), it is my privilege to invite you to participate in the 13th Asian-Pacific Congress of Hypertension to be held in Suntec Singapore from 6 – 8 October 2017.
Hypertension is not just a cardiovascular problem due to elevated blood pressure. Extended studies across species, context and time have shown that hypertension has many and complex facets to both its origins and its consequences. Hypertension is therefore of concern for all professionals in healthcare, whether physicians, nurses, biomedical scientists, pharmacists, or health administrators.
The Singapore Hypertension Society (SHS) was founded by physicians from various disciplines with the vision that since hypertension has many facets to both its origins and its consequences, a multidisciplinary approach will achieve the most success in the goal of confronting a disorder that affects 1 in 4 adults aged under 70 in Singapore, and soon will affect proportionately more of its fast-greying population. The SHS was a founder member of the Asian-Pacific Society of Hypertension and last hosted the APCH in 2004.
The scientific programme of APCH 2017 focuses on developing clinical strategies to prevent new cases, besides treating established hypertensive patients across the highly urbanized multi-ethnic population of 5.4 million persons. It appears likely that some models developed for managing hypertension in this city-state will apply, in part, to larger communities in the fast-developing Asian Pacific region. The congress will explore a number of clinically important and exciting issues emerging from research into the pathogenetic roles of sodium, and adrenal micro-adenomas. Care modelled on advanced nurse-practitioners and pharmacist-led systems feature in the seminars. Mobile phone-based apps to initiate and monitor antihypertensive treatment can exploit the interface between management guidelines and pragmatic solutions to feedback information to patients and their caring professionals.
Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre, the APCH 2017 venue, is sited in the Marina Bay area next to hubs for transport, and to world-class restaurants and entertainment. The secure meeting venue, above a shopping mall, has upgraded facilities designed for your effective and comfortable participation,
From Singapore, my colleagues and I extend a warm welcome to you in early October for APCH 2017.
