Welcome to APCH 2017 in Singapore
The 13th Asian-Pacific Congress of Hypertension
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
I bid you a warm welcome to the 13th Asian-Pacific Congress of Hypertension (APCH 2017).
The Singapore Hypertension Society (SHS) was founded with the vision that a cross-disciplinary approach will control this disorder, hypertension (HTn), which affects 1/4 adults under 70 years in Singapore, and proportionately more of the over-70s. HTn is a silent but serious blood-pressure (BP) disorder of complex origins, with severe consequences to many. This long-term pandemic poses a huge burden for all health managers, whether physicians, nurses, biomedical scientists, pharmacists, administrators or politicians.
The scientific programme of APCH 2017 aims to develop strategies to prevent new cases, besides treating hypertensive patients among the multi-ethnic peoples of Asian Pacific Region.
The congress will explore issues emerging from research into uncommon systemic causes of HTn. Care modelled on nurse-practitioners and pharmacist-led systems are discussed.
Mobile information-technology can give real-time BP feedback; monitor treatment; and guide patients and their cares. Some treatment models evolved in urban Singapore could be mass-adopted for the Region.
Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre, our secure venue, sits in the Marina Bay area, near transport hubs, shops, and world-class restaurants and entertainment. The ambience offers you a rich and many-hued experience.
My colleagues and I send you our sincere wishes for a thoughtful & rewarding meeting.
